teeth whitening In Long Island City

If you feel uncomfortable with how your smile looks in Long Island City due to stains and discoloration, Dr. Adrian Lau is here to help at BORO Dental Arts. We offer expert in-office and take-home teeth whitening so that you can brighten your smile and your self-confidence. Contact us now to get started.

what is the teeth whitening process?

We offer both take-home and in-office teeth whitening, but both types of teeth whitening use the same basic chemical whitening process. The active ingredient used for teeth whitening is peroxide such as hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide.

Peroxides contain volatile oxygen molecules. When the peroxide touches stains that are bonded to your teeth, these oxygen molecules snap the chemical bonds holding the stains onto the tooth, “bleaching” it away and restoring the natural brightness of your enamel.

Teeth whitening before and after

take-home teeth whitening

Take-home teeth whitening is very convenient, since you can treat yourself on your own schedule. To begin the process, you’ll come into our office to be fitted for a set of custom, reusable plastic whitening trays. This will only take a few minutes.

Then, once our lab partners have built your trays, you’ll come back to pick up your whitening trays from Dr. Lau, as well as professional-grade whitening gel and a set of instructions on how to whiten your teeth.

After this, you’ll just whiten your teeth at home at your convenience. Usually, you’ll whiten your teeth for about an hour per day for a few weeks, but this may vary depending on your treatment plan. At the end of your treatment, you’ll have a white, beautiful smile.

in-office teeth whitening

If you want faster results, in-office whitening is a great option. You can whiten your teeth between 5-10 shades in just one appointment.

To begin the process, Dr. Lau will clean your teeth, then apply protectant to your gums. Your cheeks and lips will be pulled aside with retractors, then Dr. Lau will apply a powerful whitener to your teeth.

Then, you’ll rinse out the whitener after a few minutes, and repeat this process several times until your teeth have reached the shade recommended by Dr. Lau.

how long does teeth whitening last?

Most patients will see the best results for up to 1-2 years after treatment. To keep your teeth bright, you’ll want to continue brushing and flossing consistently, and you can incorporate whitening toothpaste and mouthwash into your routine.

You should also continue to see Dr. Lau for regular six-month teeth cleanings. During your cleanings and oral exams, plaque and tartar that contribute to stains will be removed from your teeth, keeping them bright.

how often can I get my teeth whitened?

If you want to keep your smile as bright as possible, you can opt for yearly whitening treatments at BORO Dental Arts. We usually do not recommend full-strength whitening treatments more than once per year, as excessive whitening can cause tooth sensitivity and other oral health issues.
